Software Upgrade FAQ

FAQ related to Software upgrade/update on a Cortexa Controller

Q: Where can I find the latest update/upgrade URL?
A: Most up to date software URL's can be found at the Latest Versions of Cortexa Software page.

Q: What is the difference between a Software Upgrade and a Software Update?
A: Cortexa changed its method of refreshing software on a controller from a Software Update to a Software Upgrade. The Software Upgrade system is a more secure system that no longer changes the software until the download is completed and verified. If for any reason power is lost during an upgrade, the Cortexa will remain unaffected.

Additionally, the Software Upgrade allows for a larger operating system and therefore takes a longer time to complete.

Q: I click the <Check Now> button and nothing occurs. What is wrong?
A: Most likely the DNS servers on the Cortexa are incorrect and the URL can not be resolved. Verify that the DNS servers are correct. Please refer to the Cortexa Network Guide (for new systems) to confirm that all networking is set up correctly.

Q: On new hardware, I can click <Check Now> and I am informed there is new software. When I click <Upgrade Now>, the download starts but quits pretty quickly. What is going on?
A: This situation can be caused by a firewall on the router or an external firewall stopping the download of data. Refer to the instruction manual of the firewall/firewall router to modify the device to allow for traffic to the Cortexa. To test if this is the issue, consider temporarily disabling the firewall. The firewall can also interfere with the download of other internet resources including weather data.
